The Indonesian presidential elections in February 2024 are of significant importance to the country’s drive towards establishing strong democracy.
They are also critical to Indonesia’s continuation of the impressive path towards being a developed regional power and a leading global economic center in the years to come.
Entrenching democratic values alongside economic development will lead Indonesia to this vision.
Currently there is a three-way race for the presidency.
The political system is abuzz with coalition formations and the election of a vice president alongside the presidential candidate.
The 3 leading presidential candidates are: Prabowo Subianto (Gerindra Party) - leading in the political polls, Ganjar Pranowo (PDI-P party), and Anies Baswedan.
And yet, the most interesting and important political tussle and the one which will have the most profound effect on the presidential election, is between Jokowi (incumbent president) and Megawati (chairman of PDI-P party).
One of two will be the 2024 presidential election "king maker" and will thereby control Indonesia's political arena for the foreseeable future.
The political landscape in the country is very dynamic. Changes are still expected on the political map before the formal campaign begins.
Stay tuned to this epic scene in Indonesia's evolving history.
